The Pleiades
and a story of Ascension

This star cluster is located in the constellation of Taurus.
Fairly bright, it appears to number 6 to the naked eye.
In starlore the world over, however, it's often been called the 7...
the 7 Sisters, 7 Stars, 7 Brothers, 7 Singing Maidens, the 7 Doves, etc. with numerous stories explaining the disappearance of the 7th.

Alcyone (="Peace"), the principle star of the Pleiades,
is considered by many astronomers, ancient and modern,
to be the central sun of our galaxy.
Star shamans perceive it as a Source of powerful stellar energy,
and some intuitives receive transmissions from the Pleiades.

There are hundreds of stories and myths surrounding this star cluster, but there is one in particular which resonates strongly with the current celestial line-up, symbolizing the energies of Taurus square Aquarius.

Dr. E. Krupp, in his book "Beyond the Blue Horizon" says that
Pleiades stories often center on seasonal changes and
"...speak of food, hunger and magical departure from the earth".
Directly related to Taurus (earth/food/survival) and
Aquarius (sky/space/ascension) themes,
this pattern is seen in a story told by
the Onondaga Indians of upstate New York:

A party of Onondaga had decided to settle by a lake and stock up on fish and game for the winter; by autumn, most of this work had been accomplished,
and they started cutting down on their food consummation..
A group of children had taken to dancing by the lake each day,
despite the warnings of a strange old man wearing white feathers who advised them to stop.
Each day they returned to the lake to dance,
even as they grew hungry & light-headed.
One day while dancing, they became more and more giddy, and they started to rise into the air.
They knew something incredible was happening
and one of the children advised the others not to look back down, lest they fall.
A tribes woman saw all this and called to the parents,
who came running with food, beckoning the children to come back down.
One child looked down and was immediately transformed into a meteor or falling star.
The rest rose higher and higher, eventually finding a place in the sky as the 7 Pleiades.
One of them (the 7th) had been singing all the way up, and this made him fainter and fainter.
When the group finally reached their destination, this 7th was hardly visible...

Krupp says that this story signals winter as a dangerous time of scarcity, hunger, starvation, death; it also points out the importance of this constellation in the timing for planting and harvest.
This theme of seasonal hunger and timing is found as well in many other Pleiades stories from different cultures.

But consider the more esoteric hints:
The giddiness, light-headedness and "ascension"
resulting from
dancing & lack of food (chosen or not),
all speak of a process that anyone who has fasted recognizes,
and every ecstatic dancer, drummer & raver are familiar with---
the loosening of ties to food/material level, and the awakening of subtle perceptions of transcendence, lightening, increased psychic energy, etc.

Children ascending point to the potential of transcendence thru the more unconditioned, irrational, "unreasonable", inner-child layers of our psyche;
children have always been more open to the invisible realms.
It also suggests that what "ascends" is the emotional and/or psychic body, rather than the physical...

Here's the challenge of
integrating earthy Taurus and spacey Aquarius.

The star cluster of Pleiades is said to be especially potent now,
serving as a gateway to ascension.
It awakens the feminine
& facilitates multi-dimensional frequency exchange.

symbolically, as well as concretely,
on the inner & outer energy levels.
